Built in 2011 following the demolition of Olympic Park Stadium, Lakeside Stadium is Melbourne’s newest premier athletic facility. The facility is part of the Melbourne Sports Hub group of sporting facilities – other facilities include Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, the State Netball & Hockey Centre and Sports House.
Developed as part art of the Victorian Government’s multi-million dollar State Sports Facilities Project, this impressive state-of-the-art facility features seating for up to 7400 spectators, an international standard athletic running track, designated athletics warm up area, and a FIFA-sized natural grass pitch. The VIS building is home to some of Victoria’s most talented athletes and has the facilities you would expect, including an elite training gym with an indoor running track, 25 meter pool with ice baths and multi-purpose sprung floor.
The grass pitch is of course the home ground of South Melbourne Football Club and the athletics track a much loved training ground for some of our top athletes.
Lakeside Stadium houses a number of key sporting associations, including Athletics Australia, Little Athletics Australia, Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), Little Athletics Victoria and Athletics Victoria.
The stadium is available for corporate and school bookings and features a number of fantastic function spaces.
